Property line screen in LA

Owner did an extensive renovation of an old house and wanted to screen out the large apartment building next door.  The width of the existing area for planting the screen was very narrow - about 12" wide, so we recommended straight, vertical and narrow Semiarundinaria fastuosa (Temple bamboo).  The plants were installed in late fall and not watered enough during the first winter.  Owner insisted the plants were dead.  With more water and a little time they recovered and flourished.
