Residential Entrance Accent in Los Angeles

Enormously talented and successful designer in the film industry designed and renovated this house in 2000.  He chose Phyllostachys bambusoides (Japanese Timber bamboo) to place in a large new planter near the front entrance in 2001.  We chose to install plants with large rhizome systems which were not impressive when they were first planted.  However, the large new canes which appeared a few months later made everybody happy.  He later sold the house and said the bamboo was an important factor in making a good profit.
I feel the new owners should allow us to shape the plant into a more attractive shape.  I don't really like the way the canes are angling out away from the house.  And I think they are too crowded - too many canes, some should be pruned out, especially the smaller ones.
