Macy's Department Store

This was the first building I worked on after graduating from Architecture School.  It was a circular building surrounded by a parking garage that I designed when working for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in New York City in 1963.  Macy's owned all the property except for one small piece owned by a lady who had lived there since 1922 and wouldn't sell, even when  offered five times the value of the land.  So - we incorporated a notch in the building to fit around a corner of her property.  The other challenge in the design were the spiral ramps leading cars into the parking garage.
