Hermine - Fine, delicate foliage on elegant stems. Doctor Haubrich keeps changing
his mind about what to call this beauty, but as my mother's cleaning lady Gert
Stein used to say, A Bamboo is a Bamboo is a Bamboo".
In India it is used to manufacture fishing rods & woven baskets.
Before 1980 the only mature plant in the U.S. was at Inodomi Nursery in Castro
Valley, California, 25 miles south of San Francisco. Two pots were imported
from Germany by the American Bamboo society in 1981, but both plants died.
American Bamboo Society sales offered a 5 gallon pot @ $60, 15 gallon @ $275
in '88, 3 gallon pot @ $65 in '90, 2 gallon pot @ $35 in '91. A 5 gallon pot
1' tall sold for $10 at the '95 Southern California Bamboo Society fall sale.
