A very new import from southern Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul at about 29 degrees S latitude. It can withstand light frost and heat tolerance may not be as big a problem for this plant as for some other species of Chusquea. Small leaves appear in tight whorls on burgandy/pink canes and branches. Not a lot is known about this plant because it has not been in the U.S. for very long.
