A clumping bamboo - rhizomes will not run sideways.
Minimum soil depth required for a healthy plant = 1'
Unrestrained rhizome depth in moist soil = 2'

Variegated green and white leaves make an unusual and spectacular bamboo. Not particularly large, and can be used to create a hedge, as it is easily trimmed.

Some trim lower branches to create a dense low canopy reaching 10-12' in height.

Others enjoy a single planting of tight clumping form sometimes described as a 'fluffy snowball' since the slender leaves with subdued and attractive variegation contrast nicely with 1" maximum diameter green culms.
