        The books say 4' maximum height, ours has never reached 12".  An excellent running groundcover or bonsai subject with small leaves for a Bamboo. Sometimes flowers with no apparent harm.  Looks like a very vigorous light-green grass.  Introduced from Japan around 1892.
        David Andrews in Maryland reports plant is evergreen down to 9 degrees F. & culms lose leaves at 3 degrees F.
