PHYLLOSTACHYS NIGRA PUNCTATA

 

        An unstable, intermediate form of nigra with black freckle-like spots on the culms. All the canes eventually turn black, and most nigra plants include canes with speckled canes.  The LA arboretum has a grove marked punctata with all black canes.  The Rakusai Bamboo Park in Kyoto has a grove of 'punctata' we haven't examined.

        I wouldn't purchase nigra punctata unless I could get the Brooklyn Bridge in the same deal.
