GIGANTOCHLOA ATTER
 
Sun, 32 degrees F Minimum, 40' maximum probably in S. Cal, 70' in habitat, Clumper.
 
           Large straight, upright green canes with splotchy black marks, big leaves.  Sold for $300 at spring 2002 SOCAL sale.  Bob Dimmattia said it is hardy, but I have my doubts.  In 2004 our worker Raimundo dug a big piece out of the ground from a friend's home in Long Beach and moved it to our nursery in Perris but it did not survive.  It was treated pretty roughly, so maybe that was the problem.
