- BAMBUSA TULDA
-
- 50' height, Full Sun, 20 degrees F Minimum,
Clumper.
-
Gets somewhat bigger than Tuldoides. Thick-walled
culms are solid below 6' above ground.
Culms are longer, straighter, larger in diameter
(6" maximum diameter) than Tuldoides. Clump
is more open than Tuldoides. Dan Lemay has a clump in Fallbrook,
California which he says loses its
foliage around 28 degrees F. &
begins to lose its canes about 22 degrees F. His
plant is very big & healthy, but not very attractive primarily because
he never trims it or thins out the
dead canes, which over a period of
years have increased until they now dominate
the entire clump. Ken Brennecke has a clump
in Ramona, California which has never thrived
& he feels it needs a minimum
temperature of 24 degrees.
-
Native to eastern India & Bangladesh, where it is
used commercially to produce pulp & paper. Rare
in the U.S.
