BAMBUSA SINOSPINOSA

 

35' height, Full Sun, 20 degrees F Minimum, Clumper.

        Rare thorny bamboo with rather small leaves & shorter thorns than Bambusa bambos.  Also it is a shorter plant & will take more cold than bambos.

        A 5 gallon pot sold for $310 at the '88 ABS auction.  A 15 gallon pot was offered at the fall '92 SCABS auction for $60 & there were 8 collectors who wanted to buy it.  Ginger Bareis bought a small plant for $26 at the 1994 ABS auction in San Francisco.  Jean Harrington in St Pete Fl grew a seedling up to 6' tall in 1995 which was hit by 27 degrees for 1 night & suffered only minor damage.
