30' height, Full Sun, 20 degrees F Minimum, Clumper.
3" maximum culm diameter, grows rather vigorously, producing many thick-walled tough culms which can be used for construction of scaffolding, posts & supports.  McClure imported it from its native China into the USDA Miami Plant
Introduction Station, where a mature plant is growing.  Rare in the U.S.
A 7 gallon pot sold at the 1986 ABS auction for $190.  A 5" pot was sold at the '95 SCABS fall auction for $30. Said to be easily propagated from culm
cuttings, but in April of 1989 we made 6 culm cuttings for propagation in our South Laguna greenhouse, none of which ever produced either new foliage or roots.
