All bamboo struggling for survival in Southern California without an automatic watering system to keep it constantly moist look pretty bad at this time of year.  Pleioblastus start putting out new shoots.  Good month to start taking cane cuttings of Bambusas and Dendrocalamus if a greenhouse with bottom heat and automatic watering or mist is available.
